Forum will try to help you navigate the upcoming election

Got questions about the upcoming November election? You can learn about the upcoming ballot at a VotingMatters forum in early October.

The forum is scheduled for Friday, October 3, at 5 p.m. at Lynwood Bateman Hall, located at 11331 Ernestine Ave. in Lynwood. This event is co-presented with the news website CALÓ News and the Southeast Los Angeles Collaborative. Food will be provided. To register, please click here.

This event is part of a statewide series organized by CalMatters, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization which aims to bring its “2026 Voter Guide” to life ahead of the November 3 election. It will be the only forum held in Southeast L.A. Over 30 events are scheduled throughout California in September and October.

VotingMatters is a statewide initiative that CalMatters reports is designed to bring its “2026 Voter Guide to life” in anticipation of the November 3 election.

CalMatters creates voting guides to help individuals navigate elections, including gubernatorial races, midterms, presidential and general elections, and occasional gubernatorial recalls. The guides feature interactive tools, such as an issue quiz that matches voters with gubernatorial candidates, along with candidate biographies, detailed breakdowns of ballot propositions, and up-to-date campaign finance data.

In this year’s midterm election, California voters will elect a new governor, state assembly members and senators, U.S. representatives, and will consider 14 state propositions, among other items.

In the meantime, here are some important dates from CalMatters to help you prepare for the midterm election:

Oct. 5. Ballots mailed to all active registered voters. You can also pick up a ballot (or drop one off) at an Early Voting site.

Oct. 6. Secure ballot drop-off boxes open.

Oct. 19. Last day to register to vote or update your registration address online to receive your ballot by mail. After October 19, you must complete same-day voter registration and request your ballot in person at your county election office or polling location.

Oct. 27. Last recommended day to mail your ballot at the post office.

Oct. 31. At least one early voting in-person location will open in every county to vote or drop off your ballot.

Nov. 3. Election Day.
